Email Express

 
This is the fifth edition of Email Express, a communications tool utilized by Princeton Independent School District. This email is distributed weekly to keep you informed. Districtwide events are featured at the top, followed by a section for each campus to make information easier to navigate.

In addition. We welcome suggestions on how we can improve our communications so feel free to email jcollins@princetonisd.net with your ideas.

AG TEACHER ON LIVER TRANSPLANT LIST
PISD ag teacher Tim Johnson was diagnosed with Auto Immune Liver Disease, which means his immune system has attacked his liver. He has been in and out of the hospital as doctors diagnose and treat his condition, which has landed him on the National Registry's Liver Donor List.

An account has been set up in his name to assist the family with mounting medical expenses. Make donations to:

UPDATED FOOTBALL SEASON TICKET INFORMATION
There are still football season tickets available. Since there are only four home games remaining, seats for the remainder of the season are now available for $32 at the Princeton ISD Administration Building, 321 Panther Parkway. Call Beatriz Velasco at 469-952-5400 for details.

KPTN TO BROADCAST LIVE DURING FOOTBALL GAMES
KPTN will once again broadcast live from all the Panther football games this season. The internet radio station is the voice of the Panthers and pre-game coverage will begin Friday nights at 6:30 followed by play-by-play coverage when the game kicks off at 7. Access the station at:

EARLY RELEASE
PISD will release early for Homecoming Friday, Oct. 5. Schools will observe the following release schedule: PHS releases at 12:05 p.m., buses run at 12:30 after lunch; Clark releases at 12:35 p.m.; Huddleston, 12:35 p.m.; and all elementary schools release at 1:30 p.m.
 
SCHOOLS CLOSED
Princeton schools and offices will be closed Monday, Oct. 15, for fair day. Normal classes and office hours resume Tuesday, Oct. 16.

HOMECOMING PARADE
The annual Princeton Homecoming parade sponsored by the PHS Athletic Booster Club will be 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5. Click here for information and registration form.

CAFE FRESH
Cafe Fresh will serve lunch at PHS this Friday, Sept. 21, featuring cajun pasta, bread sticks, sweet tea or lemonade and Rice Krispie treats. Cafe Fresh is cash only and cost is $6.
 
FINANCIAL AID NIGHT
The PHS counselors will host a Financial Aid Night at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, in the PHS auditorium to discuss FAFSA/TASFA, grants, scholarships and student loans. Counselors will be available to answer questions about college funding options.
 
SEE YOU AT THE POLE
Princeton FCA will host See You at the Pole at 7 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26. Everyone is welcome. Legacy Church will host a See You After the Pole rally at 7 p.m. featuring special guest Jared Garrett from Oklahoma City. FCA and all local youth groups are invited.
 
FREAKY FRIDAY
PHS will continue the Homecoming tradition of Freaky Friday, so parents are invited to come to school with their students on Friday, Oct. 5. Click here for an invitation.

PSAT FOR 11TH-GRADERS
Registration for the PSAT/NMSQT is open until Thursday, Sept. 27. Juniors wanting to prepare for the SAT should register. Studies show that students who take advantage of the PSAT exams generally score better than those who do not. Register at http://aptestservice.com/princeton.

SCHOLARSHIP DAY
PHS counselors will host "Scholarship Search Day" on a Friday toward the end of each month. This is an opportunity for graduating seniors to see the most current scholarship opportunities available along with important application deadlines. Scholarship Search Day will be located in the Fishbowl during lunches. Announcements will be made during the week of that specific Friday. Stop by the counseling suite for more information.

BOOSTER CLUB SEEKS MEMBERS
The PHS Athletic Booster Club encourages all parents of athletes to get involved with the organization, which is looking for parent liaisons for each sport and members to fill the following committees: homecoming, bylaws, sports banquets, football tunnel crew and scholarships. Contact a board member if interested in joining a committee or attend a future meeting, which are Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the PHS cafeteria near the concession stands. Meetings are scheduled:

COLLEGE FINANCIAL AID
Collin College will host a financial aid seminar from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, at the Frisco Campus Conference Center. Staff will be on-site to assist in completing the free application. Bring 2017 tax information. There will be free food, drinks and door prizes.
 
ON-CAMPUS TEST
PHS will offer the SAT and ACT onsite during the spring semester. Interested 11th- and 12th-grade students will have the opportunity to test during school hours at school. Offering these tests during school hours allows students to participate without changing routines or missing commitments, including work or extracurricular activities.

Asten Kirby placed 3rd in the POW Camp meet. Also, eight boys from Clark and six boys from Southard placed in the Top 50 out of 217 runners.

CLARK SCIENCE TRIP
Clark Jr. High will travel to the Florida Keys this summer, June 14-18, 2019.
 
Activities on the trip include:

Hiking the Everglades
Snorkeling among tropical fish
Visiting the world's only state-certified sea turtle veterinary hospital.
 
Splash into Science introduces concepts of environmental science, marine biology and life science in a fun and interactive way.

Smith learns 2-dimensional terms.
Shelly Sadler's 2nd-grade class at Smith is learning about 2-dimensional figures. They used vocabulary cards to discuss attributes of polygons and placed them in order from least sides/vertices to most. The final activity included a "headbands" game where students give clues about the polygon to the guesser who holds the card.

COMMUNITY YARD SALE

PRINCETON FALL FEST
The City of Princeton Fall Fest will be 1-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, at J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park. Organizers are accepting non-food vendor applications. Cost is $80 per 10x10 space. Email sobrien@princetontx.us.

The fall fest will feature a Kids Zone, with bounce houses, wall climbing, train rides and mechanical bull riding. In addition, there will be arts and crafts and food vendors, hay rides, mutton busting and live bull riding, as well as a pumpkin patch.
 
 
PRINCETON SPLASH DASH
The City of Princeton Color Splash Dash will be Saturday, Nov. 17, at J.M. Caldwell Sr. Community Park. Registration is open for the 2nd annual 5K run/walk. Participant registration is $30, which includes shirt, sunglasses, drink, snack and one color pack (while supplies last). First-place medals will be awarded in all running divisions

3K walk starts at 9:30 a.m.
