Seven Princeton Senior High School students have started their practicum in education, as they prepare for their future careers.
They will gain valuable experience this semester as they begin to shadow pre-K teachers on the early childhood campus at Canup. They spent the first few weeks of the new school year doing last-minute preparations to enter the classroom.
In the spring, they will also have the opportunity to teach their own lessons as they continue to learn about lesson planning.
The seniors created “About Me” presentations to use as an introduction for their new students. They were excited to include information about their families, hobbies, extracurricular activities, as well as a list of some of their favorite things.
In addition, they brought the perfect gifts for their mentor teachers, kid-friendly snacks for the classrooms.
Once they arrived on campus, they quickly learned how fast-paced a pre-K classroom must be to keep the attention of the 4-year-olds.
These seven students have spent the last year at PSHS studying child development and principles of education with teaching and training instructor Crystal Telles. Throughout the year, they will journal their experience and create a portfolio of their work and what they have learned.

The CTE program is under the direction of Brett Hackman, and Lauren Ledford, principal at Canup Early Childhood Center, will oversee the students during their hands-on internship.
