All About Mrs. BingmanFamily
My family and I have been living in Texas since 1993. We have lived in Lubbock, Frisco, and McKinney. Now we call Princeton our home. Before living in Texas, I lived overseas on the island of Guam. I lived there for seven years and met my husband on the island. My husband and I are both teachers. My husband, Doug, is Director of the Career and Technology Department at the high school in Melissa ISD. I am the Reading Intervention Teacher and Dyslexia Therapist here at Lowe Elementary. We have two daughters. My oldest daughter, Coralyn Kai, graduated from Montana State University as as a paleontologist. She has worked at a couple of dinosaur digs and has even spent a summer in China researching fossilized dinosaur eggs. My other daughter, Sirena Raye, is an optical technician, a musical theater performer, and a budding photographer. In addition to 2 daughters, we also have 12 birds and a giant dog that we claim as part of our family!
Teaching Background
This is my 19th year to work for Princeton ISD and my 3rd year at Lowe Elementary. Prior to working as the ARI Teacher and Dyslexia Therapist at Lowe Elementary, I worked 2 years at Smith Elementary, 9 years at Harper Elementary, 3 years at Godwin Elementary, and 2 years campus sharing at the intermediate school, junior high, and high school here in Princeton. I also taught in McKinney ISD for one year prior to moving to Princeton. Altogether, this is my 20th year as a public school teacher. I also have a long history of teaching a variety of ages and professional courses outside of public school education. I have been a professional SCUBA instructor since 1990. In addition, I am a former American Red Cross Instructor and Instructor Trainer and a former lead teacher in the private pre-school and after-school setting.
Education and Teaching Certifications
I received my bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Early Childhood Education from Texas Woman's University in May 2002. Since there are so many similarities between early childhood language acquisition, second language acquisition, and special education language acquisition, I went on to receive my ESL certification in January 2003 and my Special Education certification in May 2004. Later, when opening the new Harper Elementary campus in 2008, I also became certified in Gifted and Talented Education. In December 2015, I graduated with my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Triple Literacy from University of Texas Arlington and became a State Reading Specialist and a Master Reading Teacher. I am currently participating in the 2-year training program in "Take Flight: A Comprehensive Intervention for Students with Dyslexia" and completing the process to become a Certified Academic Language Therapist. I am very excited about this new chapter in my learning.
