Mr. Shawn Smith
Shawn Smith is the Defensive Line Coach, CSCS Certified Strength and Conditioning Coordinator, Head Powerlifting Coach, and JV Head Coach/Defensive Coordinator for the Princeton Panthers. Previously, he has coached in Celina, Anna, and Caddo Mills as well as Enid, Oklahoma. His extensive coaching background includes Celina going 12-3 in 2014 and making it to the semifinals. The following year they went 15-1 as the state runner up. Smith was part of the largest 4th quarter comeback in Oklahoma history! His team was down 42-7 with 10 minutes left in the 4th quarter and came back to win in double overtime. The final score was 49-42.
In college, Smith played on the Offensive Line for Southern Illinois. He set a school record for starting 51 straight games for the Salukis. Among his many accolades, he was named All Conference as a Junior and Senior. During Smith’s time at SIU, the Salukis finished top 10 nationally every year, including a 2007 trip to the Division I FCS semifinals where they faced Joe Flacco on ESPN. Smith earned two separate bachelor's degrees from Southern Illinois University before moving to Texas to start his coaching career.
Coach Smith is from Hutchinson, Kansas, where his high school record was 34-4 including winning the 6A Kansas State Championship his senior year. Throughout high school, he played on the offensive and defensive line. He was named All State Defensive Lineman and awarded Kansas Top 11 Honors.
Coach Smith’s hobbies include bodybuilding, running, playing guitar, and traveling with his girlfriend, Kelsey. He is excited about starting this new chapter in Princeton!
