I was born in Cuba in the province of Ciego de Avila, "the land of pineapples". Some of my earliest memories there include learning to write my name and reading my first book, so I guess I've always had an interest in writing and literature! My family moved to the United States when I was seven years old. I lived in Miami until high school and then I moved to Texas, where I finished high school at Allen. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Literature from the University of Texas in Dallas in 2015. Then I graduated with a Master's in Fine Arts from the Iowa Writers' Workshop in 2019. I've been teaching since 2018. I am working on my first novel, a mixture of magical realism and sci-fi. I prefer to go by my maternal last name: Mr. Kardoso.
