Mrs. Deni Balak
Welcome parents and students,
My name is Mrs. Deni Balak, and I am excited to start the 2018-2019 school year! I am thrilled to have each of you in my 6th grade English class, and if you're lucky, also in the one art class I will be teaching.
I actually went to Princeton schools from way back when Lacy Elementary was called Princeton Elementary and graduated from Princeton High School in 2014. After high school I went to the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) on a full ride through Schedler Honor's College and graduated Magna Cum Laude in December 2017.
I've always enjoyed working with middle school and high school aged kids and even volunteered much of my time in college working with teens and pre-teens on probation through the juvenile court in Faulkner County, AR. For my Honor's Thesis project, I did extensive analyitical research thorugh the Faulkner County Juvenile Court to assess the risk these kids faced of reoffending/reoffending violently, andhow to fulfill areas of need these students were lacking in their lives that lead them to commit crimes.
During one of my courses, I, along with some of my peers, taught Shakespeare to students who were either on probation or just being released from juvenile prison. I decided to teach after one of my students, a 14 year old boy who had been in prison for the previous 9-12 months, spoke of how grateful he was for the program because it helped him rediscover who he was outside of prisonization. I loved the impact that literature was able to make through that young man's life and decided to turn my own love of literature and for helping troubled kids into a career in education.
