Testing

Princeton ISD requires currently enrolled students to the the Advanced Placement exams for the classes in which they are enrolled. Scoring well can often lead to students earning college credit from their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.

Credit by Exam (CBE) is a testing program offered by Princeton ISD for students enrolled in grades kindergarten through 12. The purpose of CBE testing can be for acceleration (a student wishing to test out of a grade level or course without prior instruction) or recovery of a credit (for a failed course). There is not CBE to skip Pre-K. All CBEs in Princeton ISD come from our board-approved vendors: UT Austin and AVANT assessments for foreign languages.

Review this important information about CBEs prior to speaking with your counselor:

• Testing is available to Princeton ISD students who are currently enrolled during the available testing windows.
• Students may not attempt a CBE for a grade or course that they are currently enrolled in.
• Students in grades k-8 who are attempting to test out of the NEXT grade level must speak to their counselor at least four weeks prior to the date of the testing window. If criteria for accelerations has been met, placement in the next grade level will occur at the start of the following school year.
• All tests are available in English except the Spanish Monolingual CBE.
• In order to test out of a k-8 grade level, the student with no prior instruction must make an 80 or higher on all four academic subjects: Language arts, math, science, and social studies from our UT Austin High School partner as well as have a school district representative recommend the student for higher grade level and the student's parents or guardians gives written approval for acceleration.
• For students with no prior instruction who attempt a CBE for high school credit, will need to make an 80 or higher in each semester course.
• A student with prior instruction must make a 70 or higher to be awarded credit for recovery.
• CBEs still require a student to take the appropriate grade level STAAR/EOC examinations as required by 19 TAC 74.24(c)(11).
• A student may not attempt to earn credit by exam more than two times.
• Princeton ISD will not charge for examinations for acceleration.

Credit by exams are only offered four times throughout the year. Please see the testing calendars for dates.

Early reading and math assessments are given in grades Prekindergarten through 2^nd grade. These instruments are designed to be administered one-on-one by the classroom teacher. Each assessment provides age-appropriate measurements and can be administered at the beginning of the year (BOY), middle of the year (MOY), and/or end of year (EOY).

Scores from the September will be available in the College Board Portal. You will need to create a College Board account.

Do you need to sign up for the ACT or the SAT?
Don't forget to stay current with the latest information regarding SAT/PSAT and ACT.

The SAT/ACT are offered twice a year during the school day in Princeton for each test, or these tests are offered on Saturdays throughout the school year at different locations. Please come by the office before or after, or during your lunchtime to request any information. Also, you should check with Mrs. Stokes (Campus Testing Coordinator) if you receive free or reduced lunch because you may be eligible for a fee waiver for the SAT and ACT.

Princeton ISD assesses students at the end of each nine weeks period. These tests are designed to assess individual TEKS proficiency taught throughout that period. Using the data, teachers can identify the strengths and gaps in conceptual knowledge, which then allows the teacher to plan learning opportunities in the classroom to address the needs of the students.

STAAR Scores

Parents and students can access their scores at www.texasassessment.com and click the "Log In to Student Portal" link. One can use the Portal Code found at the bottom of the STAAR Report Card from a previous administration or use the "Lookup Access Code" link to enter the student's first name, SSN number, and DOB to get the code.

TEA designed the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) to assess the progress that Emergent Bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language. Texas annually assesses students in kindergarten through grade 12 who have been identified as EB in four domains-writing, reading, listening, and speaking.

The results indicate how well students understand and use English during academic instruction. Students who do not make a steady progression of the English language may require additional assistance at school.
