Bullying Information

Princeton ISD believes that a safe and civil environment is necessary for students to learn and achieve high academic standards. We recognize that having a safe and welcoming school climate is essential to learning. Bullying, harassment and other aggressive behaviors is conduct that disrupts both a student's ability to learn and a school's ability to educate its students in a safe environment. Demonstration of appropriate behavior, treating others with civility and respect, and refusing to tolerate bullying or harassment is expected by students and staff alike. It's our goal to produce an environment where all students feel safe and are confident in achieving success in school.

Definition of Bullying

Bullying involves written or verbal expression, electronic communication, or physical conduct that occurs on school property, at a school-sponsored or school-related activity, or in a district-operated vehicle that:

• Has the effect of physically harming a student, damaging a student's property, or placing a student in reasonable fear of harm; or
• Is sufficiently severe, persistent, and persuasive that the behavior or threat creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for the student. (Texas Educational Code §37.0832)

Bullying may involve, but is not limited to, the following behaviors when they create an intimidating, hostile, or offensive educational environment:

• Repeated teasing or name-calling
• Cyberbullying*
• Sexual, religious, or racial harassment
• Public humiliation
• Social exclusion
• Spreading rumors
• Repeated physical intimidation

*Cyberbullying is defined as willful harassment or intimidation of a person through the use of digital technologies.
