Communications

Princeton ISD will work cooperatively with the news media for coverage of questionable issues, crisis, general news, and events involving the district. Please respect the following Princeton ISD media guidelines that will ensure the integrity of our instructional day and allow us to provide consistent, accurate information to our media representatives.

The following guidelines are in effect at all Princeton ISD facilities and for all employees.

• All media inquiries must be directed to the Communications Coordinator, Jean Ann Collins, at 469-952-5400 ext. 3504. Calling administrators, campuses or Princeton ISD employees directly will delay the transmission of information you or your reporters need to do their job. Princeton ISD staff must alert the Communications Coordinator any time they receive a media inquiry. 
• The Communications Coordinator, or a representative, will be present at any and all interviews with members of the media. When it is not possible for the Communications Coordinator, or a representative, to be present, the interview will be recorded by the Princeton ISD employee and reviewed by the Communications Coordinator.
• The Princeton ISD Communications Department reserves the right to refuse availability of an employee. If a Princeton ISD employee is not available for comment, a written statement will be issued by the Communications Department. Any other communication with the media will be considered not authorized by or representation of the District.
• The Communications Department must be contacted when a representative of the media visits a facility. If the media visits a Princeton ISD facility* without prior approval from the Communications Coordinator, he or she should be asked to leave and referred to the Communications Coordinator. The facility supervisor will be notified to coordinate an appropriate time.
  • * - Exception: If the district hosts a public event, then the above guidelines do not apply. (i.e. sporting events). 
• Cameras/reporters will not be allowed inside the facility unless the Princeton ISD Communications Department has been notified and it is determined that such a visit will not be disruptive. 
  • Photographs and video may be taken by the media at the discretion of the campus administrator/Communications Coordinator. 
  • The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) must be followed at all times. Each campus has a list of students whose "directory information" (i.e. names, address, picture) cannot be released per the parent's request.
• The Superintendent or their designee shall be the official spokesperson for Princeton ISD.

The Princeton ISD social media pages are provided for the district community by the Princeton ISD Communications Office. Social media will be updated as often as possible to share as much as we can about Princeton ISD and the achievements of the students and staff, as well as other relevant district information.

All comments posted on these platforms are at the discretion of the account administrators. The intent of this policy is not to keep any negative or critical information from being posted, but to protect the privacy and rights of Princeton ISD staff and students. Naming specific employees or students in a negative way will not be allowed. The account administrators will review all postings to make sure they do not run afoul of the rules nor of the district’s Acceptable Use Policy regarding Internet access and practices.

We welcome your thoughts and comments and look forward to what you have to say. However, we will not leave postings that:

• Break the law or encourage others to do so. This includes respecting copyright and fair use laws. If you are talking about somebody else’s work, reference this or the person, and where possible include a link.
• Contain abusive or inappropriate language or statements. This includes remarks that are racist, homophobic and sexist, as well as those that contain obscenities or are sexually explicit.
• Easily identify students and/or staff in defamatory, abusive or generally negative terms.
• Do not show proper consideration for others’ privacy or are considered likely to offend or provoke others – i.e. don’t pick fights or goad others into inflammatory debates.
• Are spam, i.e. repeatedly posting the same comment or comments that are simply advertising/promoting a service or product.
• Contain advertising not previously approved by Princeton ISD. Social media is intended to communicate information pertinent to Princeton ISD, not sell products or services.

The account administrators reserve the right to not post or remove any comments at any time, for any reason - but we hope that won’t be necessary.
