Princeton ISD Auto Tech students compete in the North Texas Automobile Dealers Auto Tech Competition. Teams from across North and East Texas compete in this event, which is held at the Indy Garage at Texas Motor Speedway. Participants compete for a change at scholarships and professional industry tools in order to continue their career path journey.
How the Contest Works
The Auto Tech competition is held in two phases:
Phase I: Workstations Challenge
Contestants are tested on their knowledge of tools, measuring instruments, specific vehicle service information and job interview skills at four to six Workstations. The Workstations Challenge accounts for 40 percent of the total team score.
Phase II: On-Vehicle Challenge Each team has an allotted amount of time in which to interpret, diagnose and repair a number of a pre-assigned problems on the vehicle, based on the repair order for that vehicle. Each correctly repaired "bug" is worth a set number of points depending on the level of difficulty. The On-Vehicle Challenge accounts for 60 percent of the total team score.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. We help each student excel. A nonprofit national education association, Skills USA serves middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students preparing for careers on trade, technical and skilled service occupations
Our SkillsUSA chapter is gearing up for another exiting year! As a chapter, we have grown from the previous year. We will be competing in Cosmetology, HVAC, and Health Sciences. We have many students competing in different categories! This will make for an interesting trip for our district, state and national competitions.
We are always looking for community outreach opportunities and involvement. We work with Habitat for Humanity, the Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Committee. Many of our programs work within the community to provide services while training students, from catering events to haircuts at the salon to oil changes.
On the CATE campus, we house Nursing and Health Science, Cosmetology, HVAC and Auto Tech. At the Vocational Education Building, we offer Welding, Animal Science, Ag Mechanics, Plant Science, and Construction Trades. Within the middle schools, we offer Business Information Management classes. At the high school, we offer Culinary Arts, Computer Programming, A/V production, Engineering and Computer Tech, Entrepreneurship, Commercial Photography and Family and Community Services.
We are in the same building as the Canup Early Childhood Center, with the main entrance on the west side of the stadium parking lot, on the home side. The address is 510 Bois D'Arc Ave.
