Course Description

This course is a survey of the development of the English language and literature from the early Anglo-Saxon period to the present Modern Period.  Within this content, the student will critically analyze the author’s stylistic techniques and see how the changes in the language are reflected in the literary works of the historical periods.

Objectives of English IV

Develop critical thinking in reading/writing analysis

Write resumes for future job and college applications.

Write college essays – rewriting, revising, and peer editing.

Reinforce grammatical conventions/mechanics.

Increase vocabulary through units of SAT vocabulary building.

Research topics and write reports.

Supplies needed -

Notebook 

Notebook paper

Blue or black pens

Pencils, #2

Pens, any ink color, for revising/editing

Classroom supplies -        

1st period – One box of tissue each

2nd period – One pkg. of markers OR colored pencils each 

3rd period – One pkg. of construction paper each

4th period – One roll of paper towels each 

6th period – One bottle of hand sanitizer each 

7th period – One glue stick each
