8th Grade English, Grade Pre AP English Conference Period: 8:45-9:35 E-mail address: dsouthard@princetonisd.net Last updated: Oct. 25, 2005 |

My name is Deborah
Southard, and I have been teaching in Princeton since 1979. I am a
graduate
of the University of North Texas in Denton. I graduated from UNT
in 1970. Yes, I know most of you were born about that time. I grew up
in
Farmersville and graduated from high school there in 1966( I apologize
for that, but I had no control over it). I have been teaching for
twenty-five
years. I have degrees in Vocational Home Economics and Secondary
Education with a minor in English. I am also the yearbook sponsor for
CMS.
All three of my daughters are gradutes of PHS, and my husband, James,
is
a Farmers Insurance Agent. I taught Title I Reading for four years at
Princeton
Elementary. I have been teaching eighth grade English at CMS since
1983.
I started teaching GT English three years ago, and I have been the CMS
Yearbook sponsor since 1987. I believe that teaching is more than
just a profession. It is the profession that creates all others and
determines
the future. I feel fortunate to see the wonder in a child's eyes when
he
understands a concept for the first time or comes back to see me after
graduating from high school to tell me that my class still holds
special
memories for him.
I am a teacher. I was born
the first moment that a question leaped from the mouth of a child.
Throughout
the course of a day I have been called upon to be an actor, friend,
nurse
and doctor, coach, finder of lost articles, money lender, taxi driver,
psychologist, substitute parent, salesman, politician, and a keeper of
the faith. I am the most fortunate of all who labor. And who do I have
to thank for this wonderful life I am so fortunate to experience?
The parents, who entrust me their greatest contribution to eternity,
their
children. I have a past that is rich in memories. I have a present that
is challenging, adventurous and fun because I am allowed to spend my
days
with the future. I am a teacher....and I thank God for it every day.
This
was written by John W. Schlatter and it really sums up the way I feel
about
my chosen profession.
